Kidnapped as cubs, tortured, abused for decades at the hands of humans, Libearty and Balkasar’s bears could not be more deserving of a safe place to call home.
Whether trapped in tiny cages by private owners as pets for entertainment, or trained to dance for paying tourists using searing hot plates beneath their feet, these bears have endured unimaginable pain and misery. Thankfully, they have now finally found sanctuary.
Although these bears can never be returned to the wild, Libearty and Balkasar sanctuaries provide them with a safe forever home, with all the care and support they need and acres of space and forest where they can roam and play with other bears and live as naturally as possible.
But caring for these vulnerable bears is a huge and expensive task. After years of abuse and neglect many of them have long-term health problems that require complex veterinary treatment, long-term care and special diets.
