Abused and exploited to perform in circuses, kept in tiny barren enclosures in zoos or caged as pets by private owners, orphaned and scared cubs left defenceless in the wild, or adults caught in traps who’ve been severely injured - sadly, there are many situations that lead to a bear in desperate need of rescue.
For these poor animals there is only one hope – Libearty sanctuary
Since 2005, World Animal Protection has supported Asociatia Milioane de Prieteni (AMP) in creating and managing Europe’s largest bear sanctuary, near Zarnesti in central Romania. The sanctuary was created to facilitate the legal confiscation of captive bears from poor welfare conditions, and our aim is to end the illegal practice of keeping bears in private and cruel captive conditions and ensure the lifetime care of those bears.
128 rescued bears currently call it home, and the sanctuary is ready and waiting for more bears in need – it just needs you to help bring them there.
Whilst we continue the long fight to change the laws and policies that allow wild animals to suffer in the name of entertainment and profit, the bears trapped in these horrendous situations need help now. The more bears we can rescue and mindsets we can change, the quicker we can reach our shared goal of ending animal cruelty forever.
