Video: Diving to clear lost lobster pots

In May we visited volunteer divers from the Neptune's Army of Rubbish Cleaners (NARC) to see them clear lobster pots and fishing gear, lost or abandoned in the sea along the Welsh coast.
Ghost Gear left unmonitored by fishermen continues to ‘ghost fish’, killing sea animals, damaging the marine environment and impacting the sustainability of the local fishing industry.

The divers attach the pots to airbags and then lift them to the surface. The divers release any animals caught in the pots back into the ocean and the pots are then recycled or given back to the fishermen. This project shows solutions to Ghost Gear being pioneered at a local level.
