Animal welfare successes in April

News

You helped us support animal welfare in the UK and around the world in April 2022.

Animals move our world. ✨

Discover five amazing animal successes that you helped to achieve in April:

🔥 You supported vets and organizations in Brazil to get prepared for wildfire season

As part of our work to prevent fires and protect affected animals in Brazil, we donated personal protection material to the Pantanal Animal Rescue Technical Group. Also, along with the Institute Homem Pantaneiro, GRETAP and the Universidad Católica Don Bosco (UCDB), we developed specialised online wildlife rescue training for veterinarians and biologists.

🦎 You and 75,000 people ended one of the last wildlife markets in the UK

The last cruel UK wildlife markets at Doncaster Racecourse will close in June 2022. This follows a two-year campaign during which 75,000 people signed our petition highlighting severe animal welfare concerns. This includes Ball pythons crammed in Tupperware and takeaway boxes and the release of two reports showing potential illegal trading.

🐔 You gave better lives to chickens in Africa

We helped Kenchic, one of the leading poultry producers in East and Central Africa, to develop its animal welfare commitments and policies. Our team in Africa had a series of meetings and training sessions with Kenchic’s senior management and technical animal welfare teams. Now the company is committed to addressing all the Farm Animal Responsible Minimum Standards (FARMS) guidelines.

🦁 You moved a traditional Chinese medicine company to sign our wildlife-friendly medicine pledge

Internet company, Huofar, signed our pledge and has committed to supporting wildlife-friendly herbal and wildlife free products for its 400,000 consumers. Huofar provides healthcare services and health food using traditional Chinese medicine methods.

😷 You exposed the hidden health impacts of factory farming

Our latest report, “The Hidden Health Impacts of Industrial Livestock Systems”, explains how factory farming is not only hurting billions of farmed animals but putting the public health at high risk and damaging the environment.
