Animal welfare successes in May

News

You helped us support animal welfare around the world in May 2022.

Thanks to your continued support, we were able to help animals all over the world last month.

Here are just five of the incredible things you helped achieve:

🐊 You called out for an end to cruelty in Australia’s fashion industry

Our Australia and New Zealand team joined Collective Fashion Justice to stage an event during AfterPay Australian Fashion Week. Models and influencers joined us calling for cruelty-free fashion. Supporters wore our ethically sourced tote bags in front of our media wall and shared our work via social media.

🐘 You raised your voice against animal cruelty in Thailand

Video evidence has revealed a mahout physically assaulting an elephant in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. The video clips exposed some of the most inhumane practices on an elephant, adding strength to our movement to implement the Thai Elephant Protection and Safeguard Bill. The Bill is now under legislative process of Thai parliament and focuses on revolutionising Thai elephant welfare standards and ending all cruelty against them.

🐥 You asked African governments to impose a ban on factory farming in Africa

Our team in Africa is running a petition asking African governments to impose a ban on factory farming in Africa. The signatures will be submitted to decision-makers during the Cop 27 convention in Egypt this year.

🐬 You called on Sea World Australia to stop breeding dolphins

Together with fellow animal protection groups, our Australia and New Zealand team gathered at Sea World to call on them to stop breeding dolphins and called on the Queensland Government to follow legislators in around the world to introduce a ban on captive breeding programmes.

🐷 You revealed animal welfare risks linked to multistorey farming in China

Our team in China released the report “MultiStorey Pig Farming Model", which exposes the risks linked to multi-storey farming, an ultra-large-scale system with limited spaces, challenges from animal diseases, environment, mental pressure, antibiotic resistance, food safety, and contamination is exacerbated.
