A coalition of 21 NGOs has brought a wave of public sadness to Hanover, calling on travel giant TUI to stop selling tickets to captive dolphin and whale entertainment.

On 20 October, campaigners presented a powerful visual message to TUI’s headquarters in Hanover, Germany, highlighting growing public opposition to the company’s continued sale of tickets to captive dolphin and whale attractions.

Over the past two days, NGO teams and volunteers took to the streets of Hanover to engage residents and invite them to take part in the campaign. Posters displayed across the city encouraged people to submit ‘sad selfies’, while campaigners gathered photographs from members of the public to create large boards representing the sadness and disappointment felt by local residents.

Our team had the best time meeting the people of Hanover. So many people stopped to chat, share their thoughts and told us they're with us.

More than 200 people took part, turning their individual photographs into a collective statement of opposition to captive dolphin entertainment and were presented to TUI HQ today.

The message to TUI is clear: people in Hanover, and beyond, do not want their holidays to contribute to the suffering of dolphins and whales in captivity.
