Statement on the situation at Marineland Antibes, France
News
We remain extremely concerned about the situation at Marineland Antibes, where two orcas and twelve dolphins remain in captivity under unacceptable conditions.
We have been in contact with the French authorities and continue to support our partner organisations in their efforts to secure lasting, humane solutions for both orcas and dolphins.
Together with our partners, we have submitted a detailed proposal for the AMLS dolphin sanctuary in Greece and are awaiting a formal response from the French government. This sanctuary would provide a safe, lifelong home for dolphins leaving captivity—including those at Marineland—and a compassionate alternative to confinement in artificial tanks. Genuine sanctuaries are viable and are the only ethical solution to the problems caused by the captive industry, sadly underscored by this distressing case.
We continue our longstanding call for governments to introduce policies that end breeding and capture of cetaceans, to ensure that no further generations are condemned to a life in captivity.
We urge the French government to take decisive action and pave the way for their relocation to a dedicated and humane sanctuary. To all supporters, thank you for standing with us. Your support brings us closer to a world where wild animals live in the wild, where they belong.
