A heard of elephants in the wild

What we achieved together for animals in 2025

As the year comes to a close, it feels like the right moment to pause and reflect. Not just on what has changed, but on how that change was made possible.

In 2025, animals were heard because people like you spoke up. Your support turned concern into action and action into real progress for animals around the world.

This year, our movement grew louder and stronger, and we showed that when people refuse to stay silent, change can happen.

From all of us here at World Animal Protection UK, thank you for standing with animals this year.

Challenging powerful industries

One of the defining themes of 2025 was standing up to industries that profit from animal cruelty.

We challenged major financial institutions like Barclays over their role in funding factory farming and deforestation in the Amazon. These practices are devastating for wildlife, local communities and the climate. This work helped shine a spotlight on where money is flowing and the harm it causes. Pressure from supporters made that possible.

We also continued to challenge the travel industry, calling on TUI to stop selling tickets to animal entertainment venues. Dolphins, whales and other wild animals are still being forced to perform for tourists in barren tanks and enclosures. This year, thousands of supporters joined us in demanding better, proving that cruelty should never be part of a holiday.

At Westminster, we brought farmers, MPs and decision makers together to champion a kinder and more sustainable future for animals in farming. These conversations really  matter as they help move animal welfare out of the margins and into the heart of policy making.

Lives changed forever

Alongside campaigning, 2025 was a year of deeply personal victories for animals who had suffered for far too long.

We celebrated as Chin the bear took his first steps towards freedom, leaving behind a life of confinement.

In Indonesia, Jono and his new family of former dancing monkeys began their recovery at a sanctuary designed to meet their needs. Nearby, rescued pangolins received care with the hope that they will one day return to the wild.

The flight continues in 2026

As much as we achieved this year, the work is far from done.

Corporations continue to ignore calls for change. Forests are still being cleared to meet the demand for cheap, low welfare meat and bears are still being caught in cruel traps.

Every signature, every share and every donation plays a part in pushing back against this harm. Combined, those actions add up to real pressure, real protection and real hope for animals.

75 years and counting

This year also reminded us of something bigger. The work we are doing now is part of a fight that began 75 years ago.

For three quarters of a century, supporters have stood up for wildlife, challenged cruelty and spoken out for animals who cannot speak for themselves. In 2025, you carried that legacy forward. Thank you.

Have you thought about leaving a gift in your Will for animals?

None of this work would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of supporters who took the step of leaving a gift in their will. If 2026 is the year you want to start thinking about your legacy to animals, look at our guide to leaving a gift in your Will to get started.
