Kammoon's story

When rescued from a hard life begging in the streets by a kind owner, her life improved, but she was later moved to a tourist attraction where she was once again forced to perform for visitors. Separated from her friends, Kammoon was made to beg for bananas and pose for photos with crowds of strangers.

Eventually, her owner made the compassionate choice to move her to the Somboon Legacy Foundation, peaceful sanctuary by the River Kwai. There, Kammoon finally found safety and space.

At first, she was cautious and withdrawn. But over time, she settled into sanctuary life. Now in her 60s, Kammoon is enjoying retirement with her best friend Malee by her side. She’s known for her strong opinions, especially around food – often helping herself to bamboo shoots when no one’s looking! Though her legs are weaker now and her digestion more sensitive, her mahouts prepare special blended meals to keep her healthy and comfortable.

By adopting Kammoon, you’ll help her live the rest of her life in peace – cared for, respected, and free from harm.
