Bolik's story

Bolik spent the first 15 years of his life locked behind thick iron bars on bare concrete, kept as a roadside attraction next to a hotel complex in Ukraine. He had never touched grass, never seen another bear, and never known the feeling of forest air or freedom.

His only companion was a wolf named Elza – together, they endured years of torment, with crowds throwing food, water, even beer cans, for their own amusement. And when armed conflict reached the region, Bolik’s life became even more uncertain.

But in 2022, everything changed. Thanks to a coalition of dedicated animal lovers, Bolik was rescued and brought to AMP Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania.

At first, he was scared to step onto grass and wouldn’t sleep outside. But slowly, Bolik began to heal. Today, he shares his forest enclosure with his best friend Puppy. He loves lounging in shady spots, digging cooling holes, and spinning fallen branches for fun.

Now finally free, Bolik is living the peaceful life he was always meant to - and by adopting him, you’ll help ensure he continues to thrive.
