For many years Mannie has lived completely alone in a theme park in the Netherlands, kept in an indoor enclosure with only occasional access to a small outdoor passage. His father rejected him and deprived of the family bonds that define a lion’s life, he has had little stimulation, no companionship, and has been surrounded by the constant noise of amusement park rides.

The cost to lease and maintain Mannie’s enclosure is £160 a month. Your donation could help us fund this expenditure and keep Mannie safe in his new home.

It will cost approximately £240 to feed Mannie for a month. Your donation could help make sure Mannie is well fed with nutritious food, so he grows stronger and healthier.
Mannie is six years old and has never known the warmth of his mother’s care beyond infancy, nor the security of a pride’s presence. In the wild, lions bond through grooming, play, and shared experiences. Stripped of these essential interactions, Mannie has spent his days alone, miserable and isolated. Instead of the vast landscapes a lion is meant to roam, his whole world has been reduced to a small space with barren walls, artificial lights, and occasional access to a small outdoor passage.
This is not the life a lion is meant to live.
But thanks to our amazing supporters we have raised the necessary funds to rescue Mannie and transport him to a nature reserve for rescued lions and tigers in South Africa. Here he will be safe but still have plenty of space to roam and play in a natural environment, and hopefully in time even live with other lions so he is never alone again. For the first time, he will know what it means to be a lion.
But we are not there yet. Taking care of a rescued lion like Mannie is expensive. He has never learned to hunt and will need food and medical care to ensure he can thrive and live a long healthy and happy life.
