Over a hundred bears live peaceful lives at the Libearty sanctuary in Romania. Many of these bears only knew a life in captivity before being rescued and lack the necessary skills to survive in the wild.

The sanctuary offers them a safe space and mimics their wild habitat so they can live out their life free from cruelty and suffering. These bears have been rescued from illegal captivity, horrendous conditions in zoos, war-torn Ukraine, or from being found injured and alone as cubs.

With your support, the Libearty Sanctuary provides around 120 bears with the food, medicine, space and companionship they need to recover from the cruelty they faced in the past and to live healthy and happy lives.

Please give what you can to help keep the sanctuary running and care for these bears.

  • Bolik, a 15-year-old bear who had been abused and held captive in the tourism industry for years. He braved the 740-mile journey to the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania where he is now recovering and making friends.
  • Maxie, arrived at Libearty Bear Sanctuary terrified after enduring weeks of hunger and abuse. Maxie is very small for her age, weighing no more than 70kg. She is now enjoying life at the sanctuary where she spends her days playing in the forest, climbing trees, and swimming, and will never go hungry again.
  • Ghitte, Hugh, Peter and Bibi, are orphans found alone and far too young to face the dangers of the forest alone without a mother to protect them. Authorities decided these cubs were also too old to be taken to a special centre and reintroduced to the wild. Thankfully, these 4 cubs are now protected by AMP Libearty Sanctuary, where they are able to enjoy nature, proper food and each other's company.
Bibi, Ghitte, Peter and Hugh. Four orphaned cubs arrived at AMP Libearty sanctuary in Romania in Autumn 2023, ready to start new lives.
