Boonlai, Roy-Ngern, Sangdao, Gumrai, Koon and Sribua have suffered decades of abuse in Thailand’s logging and tourism industries. They now live in a barren and polluted venue called Sappraiwan.

A gift today could help transform Sappraiwan into a true sanctuary and make all the difference for these six extraordinary elephants.

Meet each of the six elephants, each with their own heart-wrenching story of survival:

๐Ÿ˜ Boonlai suffered for years in the tourist industry. 20 years ago this Boxing Day, she saved the lives of the family who were riding her and her mahout from the Boxing Day Tsunami.

๐Ÿ˜ Roy-Ngern endured a life of back-breaking work as a logging elephant. She plunged into the roaring water of a flash flood to rescue the mahout who was mistreating her.

๐Ÿ˜ Sang Dao was once in such poor health that she was given just six months to live. After 60 agonising years of being exploited as a riding elephant, she has defied the odds and is on the road to recovery.

๐Ÿ˜ Gumrai spent years suffering in the tourist industry. She still swings her head from side to side – a sign of her past trauma.

๐Ÿ˜ Koon arrived to Sappraiwan with painful unhealed calluses on her legs which are still recovering.

๐Ÿ˜ Sribua has a permanently crooked hindleg after years of tourist rides.

Your support could build a chain-free enclosure for the elephants to sleep safely, establish a banana plantation for fresh, natural food, and plant a bamboo forest to create a lush space for them to explore. Additionally, you’ll fund enrichment feeding stations for the elephants, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need.

Renovating Sappraiwan is just the start of a two-year project to help venues across Thailand transform into high welfare sanctuaries where elephants can live the best possible life.
