31 monkeys have been rescued and need your help to recover!

Thanks to our supporters 31 monkeys have been rescued from Indonesia's last 'training centre' and taken to Jakarta Animal Aid Network’s sanctuary. Each of the monkeys will be quarantined for between two to three months to reduce the risk of disease transmission. During this period, they will undergo a series of veterinary examinations including x-ray tests to detect whether they have any gunshot wounds.

Long tail macaques are stolen from the wild and endure brutal training methods and physical abuse to earn money for their handlers. Many of these macaques will have been shot when they were poached from the wild, often with air rifles that use small bullets that wound instead of kill. This is severe animal cruelty - the monkeys are often chained around the neck, dressed in children’s clothing and kept in tiny cages.

The rescued monkeys will now be able to explore new diets and environments, as well as develop their natural instincts. JAAN will also do extensive work to create new family social bonds between the rescued monkeys so they can hopefully be released together back into the wild
