Bears are suffering – can you help them?

With our support, the Balkasar sanctuary has rescued 145 bears from being cruelly exploited for entertainment. Across Pakistan, bears are brutally taken from the wild at a very young age to live a life of captivity and cruelty.

Some bears are used for baiting, where they are made to fight against dogs trained to attack them. Others are forced to perform on the streets after being tortured and trained to dance to music.

Bears who have been subjected to the cruelty of baiting events and dancing are simply too traumatised to be returned to the wild. With your support, the Balkasar sanctuary is currently home to over 70 bears who receive the best possible food, care, and medicine they need to recover.

A gift from you today could give bears like Maya and Reech the food and medicine they need to stay healthy and happy and help rescue more bears from a life of cruelty.

Please can you help rescue bears today?

Maya’s story

Asiatic black bear, Maya was used for dancing and forced to perform up to four times a week. After enduring this cruelty and suffering Maya was finally surrendered by her owner to the Balkasar sanctuary, where she was sedated by the team to remove the ring and rope from her nose. She now lives a happy life where she can lie out in the sun on the grass and munch on her favourite food – dried fruit treats!

Reech’s story

Reech was destined for a life of pain and captivity, but thanks to our supporters he now lives a happy life at Balkasar sanctuary. When Reech arrived at the sanctuary it was the first time he had ever had relief from pain, darkness and torment. Now, Reech is a fun loving friendly bear and at 24 years old is one of the oldest residents at Balkasar sanctuary.
