A TUI storefront after an honest rebrand for #FreeTUI

Dolphins don't 'Live Happy': an honest rebrand

News

TUI store was given an ‘honest rebrand’ on their 'Live Happy' brand highlighting cruel dolphin entertainment.

A TUI store has been given an ‘honest rebrand’ in a tongue in cheek skit by World Animal Protection and Jolyon Rubinstein, BAFTA-winning writer and performer of BBC3's The Revolution Will Be Televised, to highlight the plight of over 400 captive dolphins in at least 25 venues TUI profits from.

The film features Rubinstein posing as a TUI Brand Director informing employees and customers about a mock give away campaign playing on TUI’s ‘Live Happy’ branding, highlighting the fact that captive dolphins don’t ‘live happy’. Meanwhile the outside of the store is rebranded, with the TUI smile logo flipped upside down to show an unhappy dolphin alongside the call to #FreeTUi from animal cruelty by ending ticket sales to cruel captive dolphin venues.

Travel companies including Expedia Group, Virgin Holidays, TripAdvisor, British Airways Holidays, Booking.com have already shown leadership and cut ties with the cruel captive dolphin industry, which was ended in the UK in 1993, but continues in over 300 dolphin entertainment venues in over 50 countries.

In their natural environment, dolphins swim 100 square kilometres of ocean freely, sometimes much more. But held in tiny barren, concrete tanks 200,000 times smaller than their natural space, exposed to infection and chemicals and often drugged to cope with captivity – they sadly can only swim a few metres at a time. The anxiety and stress can cause them to self-mutilate and become aggressive – all in the name of entertainment and profit.

Jolyon Rubinstein said:

“I was shocked and appalled when World Animal Protection told me that in 2022, it is still possible to get tickets for these deeply cruel attractions in the UK. There is simply no way to justify confining these intelligent, sentient creatures to tiny tanks where they are forced to perform circus tricks for tourist entertainment. So we decided to give a TUI store an ‘honest rebrand’ to highlight just how exploitative the ‘good wholesome family fun’ that TUI is peddling really is.”

Katheryn Wise, World Animal Protection campaigns manager said:

"Dolphins at TUI venues are made to perform in shows, interact with tourists and live in cruel and unnatural conditions for the sake of huge profits. We are calling for TUI Group and other travel companies to end the sale and promotion of venues abroad that use dolphins for entertainment – an archaic attraction that ended in the UK in 1993 due to our strict animal welfare requirements for whales and dolphins in captivity.”

World Animal Protection is calling on dolphin lovers to tell TUI Group to stop propping up animal cruelty by signing World Animal Protection’s #NoTanksTUI petition www.freetui.co.uk
