World Animal Protection attended the Ocean Plastic Solutions Day on 12 July, to talk about the trailblazing Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) we established in 2015 to fight the scourge of deadly lost and abandoned plastic fishing gear.
You helped persuade Morrisons to act on Ghost Gear (deadly lost fishing lines and nets) and now their charity, the Morrisons Foundation, is giving £20,000 to clear Ghost Gear from the sea and beaches in Cornwall and Devon.
On World Oceans Day (8th June), UK supermarkets Waitrose and Marks & Spencer have pledged to fight Ghost Gear – nets, lines and ropes that have been lost or discarded. Ghost Gear causes horrific injuries and deaths to hundreds of thousands of beautiful marine animals each year.
World Animal Protection campaigners spoke at an exciting event on Wednesday 18 April, part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting programme, that helped children understand the damaging impact of marine litter on the environment.
