Meet like-minded people, do something different and help bears. All in the beautiful Romanian countryside.

This special sanctuary in Romania provides a forever home to rescued bears who have endured the most horrendous cruelty. This is your chance to directly contribute to improving their lives and help make up for the suffering they have endured.

What will I be doing?

You will be volunteering alongside sanctuary staff and other like-minded people. You don’t need any experience to take part, just lots of energy and enthusiasm!

The volunteering could consist of: helping to plant fruit trees, building an education trail for school children, making toys for the bears or fixing the boardwalk. You’ll also get the chance to sit back, relax and watch the rescued bears you’re helping!

What did our volunteers say about the experience?

"This was my first volunteer trip and I thought long and hard about it before I applied, it was the best decision I have made and although it was my first it certainly won’t be my last."

"Seeing the bears playing in the pool with pure joy on their faces was my bear highlight, a pure breath-taking moment."

"Yes, yes and yes! The best thing I have ever done. Absolutely marvellous, spellbinding, brilliant, awesome."

The Sanctuary

Our partner sanctuary is the largest of its kind in Europe and is home to 97 bears. Each bear has been welcomed to the sanctuary having often come from a life enduring appalling conditions. Bears raised in tiny enclosures and abusive situations sadly usually can’t adapt to a life in the wild.

The bear sanctuaries are areas of forest surrounded by tall fences for the rescued bears to live safely in. The bears just love to climb the sanctuaries’ oak trees, play in its pools and generally just doing what bears do!

The Challenge

This six-day challenge is your chance to spend three whole days with the bears and help maintain and improve their safe sanctuary home. You will be helping to ensure that the sanctuary is here for the current residents and for the bears around Romania who are still waiting for their second chance.

And as if spending three days alongside bears wasn’t enough… you’ll also get the chance to see the breath-taking Romanian countryside on a trek through the Piatra Craiuliu National Park. You also wouldn’t want to miss sampling the delicious, fresh Romanian doughnuts!

Reserve your place for £295 now and commit to raising or self-funding £1,555. This will cover:

  • Flights, transfers and all transport within Romania
  • Accommodation in local guesthouses
  • All meals and drinking water throughout
  • Welcome dinner
  • Celebration meal
  • Local guides and full support crew on trek challenge

If you decide to fundraise to meet your target -  it will take determination and hard work but we’re here to help every step of the way.

Breaking it down into chunks is a good way to begin and then you can plan how much money you think you can raise from different sources and events. Ask your employer if they could match fund, that’s always a great boost. We will be here to help with advice and we can link you up with other challengers so you can swap tips too.
